The 19 July each year reminds us that this was the day that former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd declared that asylum seekers who arrived by boat would have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees. Rudd made a deal that saw asylum seekers sent to Papua New Guinea.
The arrangement was to be effective for 12 months, but after 8 years, there are still people trapped in PNG and on Nauru
