Bridging the Gap from Arriving to Thriving Ballarat Region

6 September 2017 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

The recent political changes to the refugee determination process have created increased complexities for people seeking asylum, particularly when determining which of the regional areas will enhance their chances of meeting their visa conditions.  Here at the ASRC Innovation Hub, we have been constantly approached by our members for direction and information that can inform their decision making process.
ASRC acknowledges the work that Ballarat has done in this space already and the proactive steps taken to welcome, support and advocate for this cohort.
The ASRC have a strategic obligation to ensure that our people seeking asylum are empowered and can enhance their own futures. This is why ASRC in conjuction with key stakeholders in the region are holding a workshop with community organisation, adult learning and education sector and job provider are coming together to explore possible ways forward.  Our aim is to understand what resources available, share some case studies, and explore the skills and resources that the ASRC can offer to support the great work you are doing.  We are also looking to establish some place based support from a holistic perspective to help bridge the current gaps.
We recognise that there are providers and organisations active in this space, this workshop will further strengthening the partnerships, identify and document all the resources available to enhance the smooth transition of SHEV holders / people seeking asylum and most importantly inform the City of Ballarat Intercultural Strategic Plan 2017 – 2021 which is due for public consultation.
The  workshop would be held on Wednesday 6th of September 2017  in Ballarat, at the Art Galley Annexes.
Due to the limited venue capacity, a maximum of 2 representatives from each organisation can be accomodated.
