Starring: Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker
In the role that made Julie Andrews a star, Maria’s journey from whimsical novice nun, to singing step-mum, is as heart warming today as when it first screened in 1965.
Based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. Maria becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain, Georg, with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
The romance between Maria and Georg starts them questioning the decisions they have made. Their personal conflicts soon become overshadowed, however, by world events. Austria is about to come under the control of Germany, and the Captain may soon find himself drafted into the German navy and forced to fight against his own country.
