Darwin: Human Rights Week Event

5 December 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

DASSAN – Stories of social change
Playback theatre  : A special Human Rights Week event

Monday 5th of December
Darwin Memorial Church, Smith St Darwin (next to Woolworths) 5:30pm to 8:30pm
More than 6 years ago about 100 of us gathered together to talk about what we could do for asylum seekers – and from this the amazing organisation DASSAN grew. Please join us at the place where it all started  – the Uniting Church in Smith St, Darwin – to share and see some of the many amazing stories created over the years.

Darwin Playback Theatre will be performing a show for DASSAN members and friends on Monday 5th December at the Darwin Memorial Church, Smith Street Darwin (next to Woolworths), from 5:30 to 8:30.

Playback Theatre is improvised theatre that encourages a dialogue between and within communities. It provides an opportunity for unheard voices and stories to be told and witnessed as well as a forum to share our universal stories. The experience of Playback Theatre creates a unique relationship between the audience and the performers and develops community through the experience of sharing and hearing each other’s stories. The Playback Theatre company consists of a conductor and a team of actors and a musician.

The Playback Theatre performance for this event is titled: DASSAN – Stories of Social Change.

To coincide with Human Rights Week, this evening will also be the launch of the History Project. In early 2017 a website will be developed, documenting the history and stories of DASSAN as a influential grassroots organisation. Members will play a vital role in the History Project, as it will be your stories and experiences that will form the heart of the project.

This evening of Playback Theatre is an opportunity for interested members to listen, watch and tell stories. These stories will be used to begin a dialogue on the role DASSAN has played in achieving social and structural change. Please come along to hear more about the History Project and how you can contribute.
