Footscray (Vic): Public Meeting: “Don’t Deport Huyen”
22 September 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Come to an important Public Meeting: “Don’t Deport Huyen”
22nd September, 2pm at Footcray Community Arts Centre, 45 Moreland St, Footscray VIC 3011
- Paul Lee, Huyen’s husband and Isabella’s father
- Huong Truong, Greens MLC for Western Melbourne
Last week we saw how easy it is for Peter Dutton to use his discretionary powers to intervene when a deportation is “a bit rough” for his friends’ au pairs.
But deportation is more than a bit rough for Huyen, Paul and Isabella. It will mean the indefinite separation of this family. Huyen and Isabella have not been allowed out of Broadmeadows detention centre, even for Isabella’s baptism. The strain of ongoing detention on the family is becoming intolerable.
As part of a campaign to end all of Australia’s unjust deportations and imprisonments of refugees, we need a fierce campaign to release Huyen and protect her from deportation. This meeting will discuss how we can mobilise the community and force the minister to grant her release and permanent protection.
