Hamilton: Film: The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe
17 June 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe
Four African Australian women, all former refugees and victims of sexual abuse and violence, take on the risky and difficult challenge of creating and performing their stories in a professional theatre production. This documentary charts their journeys over five years, from tentative and painful beginnings through to the eventual triumph of their theatre show in sold-out seasons across Sydney and London. Exploring the public revelations of their families and broader lives, this reveals the ways that these women have been empowered by the experience of speaking out.
“This film inspires in two important ways – art is at its best when it allows catharsis through storytelling and a nation is at its best when it provides a refuge for humanity to heal and flourish”. Dr George Miller – Director of Mad Max: Fury Road
