Kensington (NSW): Grand Challenge Meetup: What’s happening on Nauru and Manus?
26 April 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Please join us for this Grand Challenge meetup, with guest speaker Paul Power, CEO of the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA).
There are currently 65 million forcibly displaced people across the globe – more than at any time since World War II. In Australia, in response to people arriving by boat, the government sent around 2,000 men, women and children to remote detention centres on Manus Island and Nauru. After 5 years most remain there in limbo, experiencing escalating levels of mental and physical illness. What does the current situation look like for these people, and what efforts are being made by the RCOA and others to improve the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum?
