Launceston: Tamar Peace Festival – Peaceful Protest
3 August 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Brendan Nelson has been invited to speak as a part of the Tamar Peace Festival.
Safe Asylum is coordinating a peaceful protest to be held at the function. This has been communicated with festival organisers, Brendan Nelson’s office and the police and all have welcomed our attendance.
Why protest? The current spending that Brendan Nelson is overseeing, for the development of Australia’s National War Memorial, is to include honouring the actions of our country in ‘turning back the boats’.
We believe that this is an act that stands against peace and that Brendan Nelson should become a peacemaker and make changes to this plan and to the policies of his government.
You are invited to join us for this protest on condition of adhering to these strict guidelines:
No protest is to be held on the street or within the car-parks of the school, only inside the building where the presentation is to be held.
The protest and protesters will be peaceful at all times and not impede access to any entry or exit from the buildings.
The protest will be held in silence, so no calling out, interjecting or interrupting the event or speakers (if you wish to ask a question and be a part of the general audience, please book in as an audience member rather than join the protest)
If possible, please wear a red shirt, coat or other garment so that we are identifiable as the protest group.
If you can, please bring a poppy
Placards are to be easily held by one person and are not to include insults or swearing
Please be at the venue a little early so that access can be arranged.
Remember, your behaviour reflects the group, so let’s make it our best and be peacemakers in action.
