Manus Island: Inside Australia’s Pacific Non-Solution
Two years after the ‘Regional Resettlement Agreement’ between Australia and PNG was announced, more asylum seekers sent to Manus have died than been resettled and 945 men continue to languish indefinitely in detention. The Human Rights Law Centre’s Daniel Webb and Human Rights Watch’s Elaine Pearson recently returned from Manus Island, Papua New Guinea where they were investigating conditions on the ground.
We hope you can join us on Tuesday 11 August in Melbourne for a briefing and public discussion about the current conditions facing refugees and asylum seekers on the island and the many pitfalls of Australia’s asylum seeker policies.
The facilitated panel discussion and public question and answer session will feature:
Daniel Webb, Director of Legal Advocacy, Human Rights Law Centre
Elaine Pearson, Australian Director, Human Rights Watch
