Melbourne: National Refugee Rights Conference

Many refugee rights activist from around the country will be in Melbourne for the rally on Sat July 25 supporting efforts to change ALP policy and break the brutal bipartisan consensus towards refugees.
Therefore the The Refugee Action Collective is taking the opportunity to host a national conference of refugee rights supporters the day after on Sunday July 26, from 10am to 3pm at ANMF House, 540 Elizabeth St Melbourne (just north of the Vic Markets). We will discuss the way forward for the struggle for refugee rights.
There will be workshops in the morning:
Stopping Deportations
Why Regional Resettlement is Not a Solution

These will be followed by two plenaries on
Nauru, Manus, and new anti-refugee legislation – Where are we at?
The Fight for Refugee Rights – Where to From Here?
Speakers include:
Pamela Curr – Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
Katie Robertson – Maurice Blackburn lawyer, who led a recent case that successfully prevented the transfer to Nauru of 25 babies born to asylum seekers in Australia.
Ian Rintoul – long time refugee activist from RAC NSW
