Melbourne: Public Debate – RAC debates Chilcott

24 July 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Orange Life Boat

This public debate, ‘Can Stopping the Boats Lead to Welcoming Refugees?’

will see the Refugee Action Collective debate Brad Chilcott

on the questions of boat turnbacks, regional resettlement and strategy for the refugee movement.

Brad Chilcott is the National Director of ‘Welcome to Australia’, is a delegate to the ALP National Conference, and has recently advocated that the ALP accept asylum seeker boat turnbacks. He has recently called for a ‘regional resettlement framework’ rather than resettling refugees in Australia. Chilcott was also an adviser to former ALP Immigration Minister Tony Burke, as the offshore PNG ‘solution’ was being engineered.

Chris Breen, a refugee rights activist as well as a long-term trade unionist, will be speaking on behalf of the Refugee Action Collective.

All supporters of refugee rights are welcome to attend.

For more information contact Amanda on 0423 013 245.

For all coming to the debate, please also join the rally the day after to demand Labor oppose turnbacks, offshore processing and mandatory detention outside the national ALP conference on 25 Julyhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1666372583595608/
