Melbourne: Public Event: Campaign for an Australian Charter of Human Rights
10 December 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Please join us on Human Rights Day for an exciting public conversation about our campaign to create an Australian Charter of Human Rights.
Which rights will our Charter protect? How will it work? And how can we make it a reality? These are just some of the topics our expert panel of human rights lawyers and campaigners – Lee Carnie, Shen Narayanasamy & Julie Debeljak – will be discussing and we’d love to hear your questions and ideas.
Date: 6pm, Monday 10 December 2018
Venue: Monash University Law Chambers, Seminar rooms 3-5,
Level 2, 555 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD.
RSVP: Click here to register for this free public event (limited spaces available)
Guests are invited to stick around after the panel and Q&A session for some social drinks kindly provided by our friends at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.
- Lee Carnie, Senior Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre
- Shen Narayanasamy, Human Rights Campaign Director at GetUp
- Julie Debeljak, Associate Professor in the Law Faculty, and Deputy Director of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law, at Monash University
We all know our lives are better when we all treat each other with respect and compassion. Yet here in Australia the values we all hold dear – like fairness and equality – are not properly protected in our laws. Ours is the only western democracy without a Charter of Rights, but together, we can change this.
Hope you can join us on the night!
