Canberra: Rally: 5th anniversary of the opening of Manus & Nauru
21 July 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This July will mark 5 years since the ‘PNG solution’ was announced
5 years of limbo in offshore detention hellholes
2 years since Manus was declared illegal
Over 1.5 years since “US refugee deal” announced
10 deaths offshore
Its time – Bring Them Here!
1PM SAT 21 JULY—COMMONWEALTH AVE. BRIDGE
On July 19 2013, PM Kevin Rudd said “Any asylum seeker who arrives in Australia by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees.” As a result many people seeking asylum have been kept on Manus Island and Nauru for five years.
Five years of tortured uncertainty for them.
Five years of deteriorating physical and mental health.
Five years in which 12 have tragically died.
Five years of shame for Australia.
We will be gathering for a protest at the north end of Commonwealth Ave. Bridge on Saturday, 21 July at 1pm to mark this shameful anniversary. Add your voice to this call for change and be part of the movement for compassion.
