Melbourne: Rally: Stand up, Speak out: Refugee Rights are Human Rights

10 December 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

6.30pm – 9.30pm – Monday, 10 December 2018 – Melbourne – Stand up, Speak out: Refugee Rights are Human Rights RAC Vic – Bourke Street Mall

Join RAC on Human Rights Day to demand an end to the racist scapegoating of refugees.

Speakers include:
Shawfikul Islam – Rohingya refugee
Aziz, live cross from Manus
Mehdi, live cross from Nauru
Pauline Brown, Labor for Refugees

Morrison and Dutton are Australia’s version of Donald Trump, imprisoning refugees offshore for over 5 years which has led to the deaths of twelve people, separating refugee families, leaving refugees in limbo on TPVs and deporting asylum seekers to danger. Their cruelty must be stopped.

This rally also takes place in the run up to ALP Conference Dec 16-18, which brings the policies of a potential ALP government into sharper focus.

It is welcome that the ALP has pledged to abolish TPVs, but there is little else to differentiate them from the Coalition on refugees. Bill Shorten won’t set time limits to evacuate Manus and Nauru, and admits that he has no third country solutions beyond NZ’s offer of 150 places, leaving well over 1000 refugees imprisoned offshore. Nor will Shorten end boat turnbacks.

The ALP conference starts on the last day of Human Rights Week, and RAC is calling on delegates to ALP conference to back Labor 4 Refugees motions to close the offshore camps and bring the refugee here. We want an end to the Morrison government, but we also want an end to the refugee cruelty.

CLOSE THE CAMPS
BRING THEM HERE
NO BOAT TURN BACKS
PERMANENT PROTECTION, NOT TPVS

Rally will be at Swanston St end of Bourke St Mall
