National: Book Kickstarter “THE FOX”
30 August 2019 - 15 September 2019
Writing Through Fences is currently preparing to publish Mohammad Ali Maleki’s second book ‘The Fox’.
Mohammad has been imprisoned on Manus Island for 6 years and is soon to be moved to Port Moresby with the last of the remaining men from Manus. His mental health is deteriorating so I’m hoping that this project will give him a tiny bit of hope in the darkness.
You may remember Mohammad’s first book ‘The Strong Sunflower’ which was illustrated by ten artists.
‘The Fox’ will be produced in a similar style with about 16 artists contributing artworks. We are starting to receive some of the finish works which all look very beautiful.
Writing Through Fences has enough funds to pay for the printing of the first small run of books, but we’re currently raising a bit more money to pay all the artists $100 each. Half of the artists are refugees.
As with the last book, all the profits from ‘The Fox’ will go to Mohammad.
If anyone would like to contribute to paying the artists, you can make donations here:

Writing Through Fences is a group of people who create – write or make art. Most of the members are, or have been, incarcerated in Australia’s immigration detention regime. A small group of non-refugee artists and writers resident in the stolen lands called Australia, are involved in collaborative, amplification and resourcing roles. WTF is run by Janet Galbraith currently based in Melbourne, but lived in Castlemaine until late last year. Rose Ertler, currently living in Tassie but also lived in Castlemaine, helps out with some of WTF projects and is working with Janet to get ‘The Fox’ published. Bernadette Ryan, a Castlemaine resident, also helps Janet with administration.
