North Hobart: Anne Moon talks about Manus Island

29 May 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Manus Island: One of Australia’s best kept secrets

JOIN US! For another talk by guest speaker, humanitarian and human rights advocate, Anne Moon. Anne has worked with, and fought for, the men imprisoned in Australia’s offshore processing detention centre on Manus Island for the past five years. Anne will be joined by Dr. Bryan Walpole who will offer a holistic explanation from a medical perspective of the health of the men. Dr. Walpole visited Manus Island and Nauru in 2016/2017 several years ago to investigate the death of one of the men and the health crises, and is part of the Medevac assessment team.

The focus of this event will surround the Medevac Bill and the severe state of health of men on the island. Every prisoner has serious health problems, for some, these have proved fatal, for others, it is as good as a waiting game. Australia has the suffering of asylum seekers in the palm of its hand, and instead of releasing them, for the past six years it has squeezed harder and harder.

Learn, with us, about the reality of life on Manus – a well-kept secret. Hear clips from the men, see photographs of the living conditions. For some, we invite you to learn for the first time about the existence of Australian offshore processing of asylum seekers.

We are pleased to collaborate with IMPACT Utas to bring this event once more to the public. This time held at Republic Bar & Cafe, we invite you to be ready for the talk to begin at 7pm. We will have nibbles available beforehand, or feel free to grab a meal downstairs. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.
