Pakenham: RightTrack Conversations Workshop
18 August 2018 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
COMMUNITY ACTION WORKSHOP – Right Track Conversations
If you’re interested in having conversations that shift attitudes about people seeking asylum and are keen to take action with others in your area, we’d love to see you at our Right Track Community Action Workshop being run by Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) at:
Living and Learning Pakenham Inc, 6B Henry Street, Pakenham
Saturday 18th August, 9.45am – 3.00pm
In this workshop they’ll share the strategies and tools to re-frame conversations on the rights of people seeking asylum. The content is designed to complement any existing advocacy you may already be involved in, but it’s also an ideal entry point if you haven’t been involved much before. On the day you’ll meet and work with others taking action in your area.
Background Information to #RightTrack – as described by ASRC
“The #RightTrack conversations started with the implementation of the Words that Work messaging research project. This study explored the impact of different messages on 1500 people all around Australia, and gave us certain messages, and even words, that undeniably shift attitudes on the rights of people seeking asylum.
The conversation framework we explore in the workshop draws on multiple pieces of research, including Words that Work, and is designed to help us all have open, values-based conversations that don’t have to involve fact-sharing or be an information overload. The conversation model is based on sharing our values and personal responses to the issues faced by people seeking asylum.
This is one of a series of Community Action Workshops we have conducted across Victoria. It will share the tools and resources to have effective conversations with family, friends and people of influence. The workshop provides a framework to speak confidently on the issues impacting people seeking asylum. It also provides a forum for like-minded people to come together to plan, collaborate and take action locally.
Join with us as we work together to create a shared future that people seeking asylum can be part of and we can all be proud of. “
Please feel free to share this email with any person or organisation who is interested in taking action to shift attitudes in support of people seeking asylum.
A light lunch will be provided. See flier for contact details- bookings essential. There is no cost.
We look forward to seeing you there,
