Sandy Bay: Recipes of Resilience Exhibition

23 August 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Recipes of Resilience is a photographic essay by Rohingyan women who have carved out a new, temporary home in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur assimilating into local ways of life through a beautiful blending of religion &identity even as they remain stateless, trapped in cycle of uncertainty and instability.

The photos are part of a larger project, a cookbook that weaves the personal stories of the shared love between the Rohingyan and Malaysian communities organised by the Reyna Movement, a Singaporean non-for-profit that seeks to support and empower refugee women.

Please join us on August 23 2018 in the Harvard Lecture Theatre on UTAS Sandy Bay campus from 5:30 to 7pm for the opening of this exhibition, prefaced by a talk on the politics of asylum in Malaysia and this arts project by
Raeesah Khan, the founder of the Reyna Movement.

The event is free to attend, but doubles as a fundraiser and boxes will be available to collect donations.

My name is Doita, and I am originally from Perth where I met a close friend of mine who is the founder & current director Raeesah Khan of the Reyna Movement in Malaysia/Singapore, a regional organisation that fights for and provides front line services such as education to Rohingyan refugees in Malaysia.
Raeesah is doing a tour of Australia with the exhibition recipes of resilience which showcases the works of Rohingyan women refugees in Malaysia as they struggle to make a home in Malaysia amidst the uncertainty of what will happen to them.
She is exhibiting next week (Thursday 23 August) at UTAS Sandy Bay Campus from 5:30pm to 7pm, at the Harvard Lecture Theatre.
The event is free and there will be nibbles & drinks in the Foyer beforehand. We will have a donations box available for fundraising purposes as well.
