Sandy Bay: Recipes of Resilience Exhibition
23 August 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Recipes of Resilience is a photographic essay by Rohingyan women who have carved out a new, temporary home in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur assimilating into local ways of life through a beautiful blending of religion &identity even as they remain stateless, trapped in cycle of uncertainty and instability.
The photos are part of a larger project, a cookbook that weaves the personal stories of the shared love between the Rohingyan and Malaysian communities organised by the Reyna Movement, a Singaporean non-for-profit that seeks to support and empower refugee women.
Please join us on August 23 2018 in the Harvard Lecture Theatre on UTAS Sandy Bay campus from 5:30 to 7pm for the opening of this exhibition, prefaced by a talk on the politics of asylum in Malaysia and this arts project by
Raeesah Khan, the founder of the Reyna Movement.
The event is free to attend, but doubles as a fundraiser and boxes will be available to collect donations.
