Kids off Nauru – Rally outside Dutton’s electoral office

KIDS OFF NAURU NOW
On 22 August, a 12-year-old girl on Nauru tried to set herself alight after several other attempts to kill herself.
Dozens of other children are suffering from traumatic withdrawal syndrome, psychosis, suicidal ideation, malnutrition and failure to thrive as a result of being detained or warehoused on the island prison for up to five years.
Minister for Home Affairs Peter Dutton is choosing to ignore the advice of the Federal Government’s own medical contractors on Nauru by blocking the evacuation of more than 50 critically ill children from coming to Australia for medical attention.
The crisis regarding the kids’ health and wellbeing is so acute that a coalition of more than 40 humanitarian organisations, including Amnesty, World Vision and Oxfam, has given the Federal Government until November 20, Universal Children’s Day, to evacuate all children off Nauru (see #kidsoffnauru).
Help make this happen by attending this rally and saying loudly and clearly: KIDS OFF NAURU NOW!
This will be a family-friendly event, with newcomers who are concerned about the safety of children on Nauru especially welcome to attend.
Every child on Nauru has the right to be tucked into bed safely at night by their parents — just as we do in comfort with a bedtime story.
The family-friendly rally will conclude with a live reading of a children’s picture book, followed by a mass ‘read-in’, so please bring your children, a picnic rug and children’s picture books to read.
