Sydney: John Mac Foundation’s End of Year Celebration
December 13 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The John Mac Foundation aims to support and empower people from refugee, humanitarian and other backgrounds. The Foundation runs a Scholarship Fund, which awards a number of scholarships each year to assist recipients with their university studies. In the last financial year we granted three life-of-degree scholarships to highly deserving recipients and this year we have awarded three more scholarships.
We would like to thank you for your support of the John Mac Foundation and invite you to the Foundation’s End of Year Celebration. You will have the opportunity to:
– hear Deng Adut share his story
– learn more about the work of the Foundation
– meet many of the Foundation’s volunteers and supporters
– consider supporting the Foundation financially or by volunteering your time.
Deng Adut (2017 New South Wales Australian of the Year) was born in South Sudan and was conscripted as a child soldier in the Sudanese civil war, until he was rescued by his brother John Mac and eventually resettled in Australia. He started the Foundation in memory of his brother. John Mac graduated with a double degree in Anthropology and International Development, and hoped to do aid work. After struggling to find a job in Australia that would enable him to support his family, John Mac returned to South Sudan to undertake humanitarian work, where he tragically lost his life in 2014.
Please register by 3 December 2018 as spots are limited. Light refreshments will be provided on the night.
