Sydney: UNHCR Donor Briefing

Australia for UNHCR Donor Briefing with Sister Angélique Namaika

Sister Angélique was the recipient of the 2013 Nansen Refugee Award – UNHCR’s highest human rights prize – for her ground-breaking work with women and girls in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

She works in an area ravaged by Lord’s Resistance Army violence. Through her women’s refuge Maison de la Femme (House of Women), she has helped transform the lives of more than 2,000 displaced women and girls who have suffered forced labour, rape and other human rights abuses.

Also speaking will be Céline Schmitt, a frontline UNHCR Field Officer who has recently completed an extended mission in Kinshasa, DRC. The briefing will be introduced by Australia for UNHCR’s National Director Naomi Steer.
