Montmorency Asylum Seekers Support Group (MASSG) is a small group in Melbourne’s outer suburbs, with a big reach.
- We meet monthly, and between meetings an active campaign group organises letter writing and protests.
- We assist asylum seekers living in the community and in detention, with practical help, advice and friendship.
- We aim to raise public awareness of the situation of people seeking asylum and support them and groups that work for them – ASRC and other organisations. We do this through public events and meetings.
- We publish monthly newsletters
MASSG has been highly successful in fundraising and appeals, with events bringing important speakers to the local community. In 2017 we held booked-out events with Behind the Wire, Julian Burnside and David Manne as well as hosting information sessions and book launches.
One current focus is on helping the ALP to shift from ‘bipartisan’ support for government policy. (You too can download our –Labor parliamentarians email list – and paste it into the BCC field of your email to send your message to all of them!)
We welcome new members. Join us in monthly meetings or just join our list for getting our newsletters.
