Wangaratta becomes newest Rural Australians for Refugees group
RAR Wangaratta will incorporate members of both Wangaratta Grandmothers and Friends Against the Detention of Refugee Children and People in White, and welcome new members who agree with RAR Australia ideals in the 10 Point Plan.
People dressed in white again rallied outside the Wangaratta electoral office of Cathy McGowan (MHR, Indi) in Murphy Street on Friday to encourage passers-by to “honk for refugees
- Strengthen contacts with other RAR groups (Alpine, Beechworth) to support planned actions
- Organise a series of family friendly community events in Wangaratta involving refugee and newly arrived communities from the Goulburn Valley & elsewhere.
- Provide Indi MP Cathy McGowan with a series of open ended questions to the Coalition Government to be raised & noted in Federal parliament & answered by relevant ministers within 72 days. Cathy has suggested that this is the best way that she can support Indi constituents in their efforts to keep the issue spotlighted & advocate for a more compassionate, Australian response to refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia.
- Investigate steps involved in establishing Wangaratta as a Refugee Welcome Zone.
