Campaigning for changes to policies and practices affecting refugees and people seeking asylum is at the core of what we do.

We work with our member groups, the broader refugee advocacy sector and refugee-led groups to determine campaign priorities.

We campaign through:

  • Writing letters to politicians [WRITE A LETTER HERE]

  • Holding vigils and rallies in our communities

  • Petitions. Start a petition / promote a current petition.

  • Writing to local and national media.

  • Building community awareness of what really happens with refugees and people seeking asylum

Current RAR Priorities

  • CALL FOR A CEASEFIRE IN GAZA

Rural Australians for Refugees calls upon the Australian government to act urgently to invoke an immediate ceasefire and the protection of refugees and civilians in Gaza. We have resources (link below) to help groups in planning action.

  • WE STAND WITH WOMEN & GIRLS IN AFGHANISATN

RAR, Women for Change and Azadi-e Zan have launched 12 months of action calling for women’s and other organisations to speak out about the appalling treatment of women and girls in Afghanistan.

  • BIG WALK 4 REFUGEES

This virtual walk is to draw attenion to the 10,000 people seeking asylum who have been living in Australia for more than 10 years but they continue to be denied permanent residence. We’re walking to show our support for them, and to encourage our politicians to take action to fix this unfair situation. .
